According to the prisoner’s wife Fozia Abdela, the jailed opposition party leader was beaten for refusing to shed tears for Zenawi.

government intends to carry on targeting dissent, Amnesty International said today.

Temesgen Desalegn, editor of Feteh newspaper, faces a number of criminal charges based on articles he has written or published criticizing the government and calling on Ethiopia’s youth to peacefully protest against government repression.
He is the first journalist to be detained since the announcement on Monday of the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, under whose leadership the government regularly targeted critical journalists.
“It’s business as usual in Ethiopia. Temesgen Desalegn has been charged for exercising his right to freedom of expression in advocating for peaceful protests to take place, among other criticisms of the government,” said Claire Beston, Amnesty International’s Ethiopia researcher.
“Meles’ leadership was characterized by cracking down heavily on any dissent and dismantling the independent media, and yesterday’s events show that nothing has changed.”

መለስ ያጠፏቸው የፓርቲው ሰዎች !
በ1984 አ.ም አቶ መለስ ዜናዊ የተወሰኑ የፓርቲውን ቁልፍ ሰዎች ሰብስበው አጠር ያለች ቀጭን ትእዛዝ አስተላለፉ ። እንዲህ ሲሉ “ጓሃፍ ጽረጉለይ” ”እነዚህን ቆሻሾች አስወግዱልኝ” ነበር ያሉት ።በእርግጥም (“ቆሻሻ”) የሚለው ትርጉም አይገልጸውም ።ጓሃፍ ለማየት የምትጠየፈውን አስቀያሚ ቆሻሻ አይነት ሃሳብ ነበር የእርሳቸው ገለጻ ።
U.S. aid to Ethiopia helping neither us nor Ethiopians
The story matters to America because Ethiopia’s dictator was an ally in the fight against Al Qaeda in Somalia. Thanks to that allegiance, the US looked the other way on things like how the Zenawi regime jailed opposition leaders and journalists, and led Ethiopia to a ranking of 174 out of 187 countries in the Human Development Index, which measures human rights.

ኢሳት ዜና:- “በኢትዮጵያ የመሪነት ሥልጣን የሚይዘው ሰው የሚመራበትን ሁኔታ ራሱ መምረጥ ይኖርበታል፡፡
የሚመራበትን ሁኔታ በፓርቲ ማዕቀፍ ውስጥ አስገብቶ መስጠት የሚመራውን ሰው መናቅ ነው ብዬ ነው የማስበው” ሲሉ
ብቸኛው የተቃዋሚ ፓርቲ ተወካይ አቶ ግርማ ሰይፉ ተናገሩ።

The Ethiopian TPLF Prime Minister Meles Zenawi died three weeks ago. He died at St-Luke University Hospital in
Brussels, Belgium. His Party kept him in the freezer while trying to
determine what to do regarding the rules of succession, which the leader
deliberately kept vague. For three weeks his Party made a mockery of
the Ethiopian people by issuing conflicting press releases and
unconfirmed reports. The death of the TPLF patriarch Aba Gebremedhin
seems to have given them the opportunity to unthaw or defreeze his stiff
body and prepare for a state burial in tandem with the wayward priest.
